Formal explanation:

どうしてかというと - "The reason is"

行きません。どうしてかというと、忙しいからです

Common Mistakes

Mistake 1: Using too formal in casual context

Too formal with friends: なぜですか? ⚠️
More natural: どうして?or なんで? ✓
