What is ほど?
ほど (程) expresses extent, degree, or the level "as...as." It has multiple functions: (1) showing the degree or extent of something, (2) making equal comparisons, (3) expressing "the more...the more" patterns, and (4) indicating approximation. It's generally more formal than くらい/ぐらい.
