〜が (However)

What is 〜が (Contrast)?

〜が (ga) is a formal conjunction meaning "but" or "however." It's more polite than けど and commonly used in formal speech, business, and polite conversations.

English equivalent: "but," "however," "although"

Structure: [Polite form] + が

行きます (ikimasu - will go) + が = 行きますが
"I will go, but..."

高いです (takai desu - is expensive) + が = 高いですが
"it's expensive, but..."

学生です (gakusei desu - am a student) + が = 学生ですが

簡単ですが (kantan desu ga) - "it's simple, but..."

With nouns + です

[Noun] + です + が
学生ですが (gakusei desu ga) - "I'm a student, but..."
雨ですが (ame desu ga) - "it's raining, but..."
日本人ですが (nihonjin desu ga) - "I'm Japanese, but..."
