What is 〜だろう/でしょう?

〜だろう (casual) and 〜でしょう (polite) express probability, conjecture, or predictions, meaning "probably," "I think," "likely," or "I suppose." They show the speaker's estimation about something.

明日は晴れるだろう
"It will probably be sunny tomorrow"

彼は来るでしょう
"He'll probably come"

Formation

Pattern: Plain form + だろう/でしょう

With verbs:

行く → 行くだろう / 行くでしょう
来た → 来たでしょう
行かない → 行かないだろう

With い-adjectives:

高い → 高いだろう / 高いでしょう
良い → 良いでしょう
高くない → 高くないだろう

With な-adjectives:

Mistake 1: Confusing with かもしれない

だろう: Probably (60-80% sure)
来るだろう

かもしれない: Might (30-50% sure)
